Sourcemap

Watch your Levi's 501s travel 12,992 kilometers, your toothbrush 46,902 kilometers, and some guy called Leo 20,616 kilometers...a world where toothbrushes travel further than a human.

It's supply chains mapped, Sourcemap is an open source publishing platform where businesses and individuals can key up and keep track of where our objects and services are actually coming from. Breaking down the carbon footprint vs. actual weight, distance travelled and CO2 emissions for currently 577 items, Sourcemap views it up to a place of more informed sustainable decisions.

Think GoodGuide, grand scale.

Check out Sourcemap's cousins at Senseable dealing with the other end of the chain at Trash Track.

And a nice breakdown by Goodlifer here.

Neighbourgoods

GOOD calculates "a lawnmower is a valuable asset—you know, for the five to 10 minutes of actual clipping it does during a two-week span. During the remaining 20,150 minutes of that time frame, however, the thing simply takes up space in the garage".

An opportunity that Neighbourgoods has taken advantage of, it's a system of sharing, your lawnmower, that ladder, maybe an air mattress. Am wondering when it will extend into the cup of sugar territory.

The Open-Source Dress

Yes, I fall for things open-sourced perhaps a little easily. But this is Brangelina approved...(see Treehugger). Ok, never mind that. One Dress is collectively designed and created by over 1000 women everywhere. Via Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and so on... these women talked lifestyles, dreams, hemlines, necklines, colours and it all came together to make One Dress. All proceeds will benefit Womenkind Worldwide and KIVA.ORG (a brilliant person-to-person micro lending portal, check it). More sustainable dressing with The Uniform Project.
