International Buy Nothing day has come and gone.
But here’s a website to continue a thought to the cause. Shop Nothing – there’s ‘Nothing Basic’, ‘Nothing Essential’, ‘Nothing Delusion’ and even ‘Nothing Ultra’ coming in at a range of USD 4.99 to USD 999,999.
Having launched on Black Friday they plan on selling Nothing 24 hours a day, every day till Christmas. However unacquainted I am with what is Black Friday, I still manage to feel the annual wave of US retail buyer crazies from where I sit in China and Malaysia, and can certainly feel how a shop such as Shop Nothing has a place amongst the madness.
The shopping site is founded by Sustainable Management graduate Jonathan Mariano, so here’s to assuming the timely launch of ‘Shop Nothing’ has a little more to do with exploratory commentary and less (however full) of the novelty. With a background in psychology, economics, business and art I look forward to seeing what else he blends together to sneak a poke at and perhaps creatively shift our unsustainable selves.
